Overview

Ambassade d’Auvergne is a genuine slice of French heritage nestled in the heart of Paris at 22 Rue du Grenier-Saint-Lazare. This charming restaurant brings the rustic soul of Auvergne to the city’s vibrant 3rd arrondissement. The moment you step inside, you are welcomed by an ambiance that feels both warm and authentic, with a touch of countryside elegance that sets the tone for an exceptional dining experience.

The iconic aligot—a creamy, cheesy mashed potato—serves as the perfect companion to hearty mains like roast duck breast and country sausages. These dishes embody the depth and comfort of Auvergne’s terroir, each bite rich and full of flavor, showcasing local cheese from Aubrac and the renowned green lentils of Le Puy.

Ambassade d’Auvergne also shines in its charcuterie offerings, presenting delicacies such as Jambon d’Auvergne and house-made terrines that highlight the region’s artisanal meat curing. For starters, the seasonal selections balance rustic ingredients with refined touches, from the warm lentil salad—a classic since 1966—to exquisite offerings like poulpe with chorizo and aubergine caviar.

Diners praise the restaurant not only for its dishes but for the approachable yet polished service. The staff blends professionalism with genuine warmth, creating an inviting atmosphere whether you choose to sit inside amidst cozy décor or enjoy the street-side terrace on a sunny day. This flexibility enhances the overall charm, making it a desirable spot for both casual visitors and those seeking an authentic French dining adventure.

The dessert menu is no afterthought. The chocolate mousse at Ambassade d’Auvergne has garnered a cult-like following, loved for its rich texture and generous portions—perfect for sharing or savoring solo. Meanwhile, classics like crème brûlée round out the meal with a satisfying sweetness that lingers.

Ambassade d’Auvergne caters primarily to lovers of traditional French cuisine and travelers looking to immerse themselves in regional flavors beyond the typical Parisian fare. It is an ideal destination for those who appreciate hearty, well-crafted dishes paired with a thoughtful wine list and a welcoming ambiance. It was my first time visiting Paris and found this restaurant on Google Maps. It's a proper French restaurant. We had lamb and shrimp and loved both dishes. They have nice beers and wines. Inside if the restaurant is so lovely but the weather was so nice so we sat outside which although there's a street view it is still quite good. I can say the staff was the most friendly staff in Paris that I saw. My partner and I really enjoyed having the first our dinner there.

The dishes was very good. My wife love the stewed lamb with broth and aligot. My country sausage with aligot was also very delicious. The most impressive dishes was the dessert. My wife's chocolate muse was so delicious but huge size

We have been trying to find Ambassade d'Auvergne ever since our 2011 honeymoon, when we had the best meal of our time in Paris there. The cheese potatoes and chocolate mousse, doled out in big spoonfuls, were both entertaining to watch and delightful to eat. We've now made a note of where this place is and will be back again, hopefully before another 14 years passes!

Excellent dining experience! Would recommend! We went for dinner without prior booking but were lucky enough to find a table. Had the duck and the lamb with aligot and thought they were the best we've ever had. Until we had the chocolate mousse which ruined desserts from now on. I'm sure we'll struggle to find anything remotely as good as this. The wine list was great and so was the Armagnac. Staff very friendly too!

My second time here, and I had a great experience again. The menu is original and delicious, and the service is warm and friendly. It's definitely on the expensive side, but I think it's worth it.

We were looking for a quick, casual dinner and had a marvellous time here. We sat outside as it was pleasantly warm. All 3 of us (2 adults & one child) enjoyed mashed potato with meat: country sausage, pan fried steak & slow-cooked lamb and it was superb. The adults also had a bottle of red and it went well with our meal. That mashed potato is really excellent and we will certainly be back for more.
